While we must certainly make decisions based at least somewhat on our outlook for the overall stock market and "macro" situation, the best gains by investors (and most fun!) have traditionally been had by searching for the right companies, and buying them when they are cheap and/or relatively undiscovered. No matter the big picture, there are always companies...and sometimes even entire sectors...that represent compelling value, and go up even if the overall market is declining.
